AGM report by NLCA City in Bloom representative, 2014/15

By Gabrielle Villermet, NLCA representative on Brighton & Hove City in Bloom committee

The volunteer run Brighton & Hove City in Bloom has had another successful year. We are at present a committee of three who meet frequently and are supported by a working group that meets less often.

Two new competitions

The competitions in the community were well supported in 2014 and we introduced two new competitions. We also secured new sponsors for some of the competitions.

North Laine winners in several categories

I was delighted that North Laine did so well, winning several categories. Yvonne West of Kemp Street, whose house front is always a picture, won joint first prize in the Best Window Box category, while Hannah Ball also of Kemp Street won second prize in the Best Hanging Basket category. Kemp Street as a whole entered the Best Street category for the first time and was awarded a Best Newcomer Certificate. So very well done to Kemp Street!

Another North Laine winner was Colin Rogers-Marsh of Belbourne Court, who won a Highly Commended Certificate in the Best Front Garden category. The garden is maintained by Belbourne Court residents and is a great credit to them.

The 2015 competitions

The 2015 competitions were launched in the foyer of Jubilee Library on 30th March. We hope to see entries from all over the city but especially from North Laine residents and traders.
