A trip to Monet's garden and an allotment at Stanmer Park

By Jackie Fuller, North Laine resident

The NLCA started a Gardening Group about 15 years ago. It met regularly in people's houses to discuss how to get the best out of our small town gardens or patios and to exchange cuttings and seeds. These were always very social occasions, with the wine flowing freely....

Various visits

The Group also went on visits to different gardens or garden centres, mostly around Sussex, but one notable trip was much further afield: to Monet's garden in Giverny, where we stayed overnight in a gîte.

The top photo shows a few of the members at that time taking time out to enjoy an apéritif in the garden of a rustic bar. Can anyone remember which year this was?

Now an allotment

Later the Gardening Group acquired an allotment at the back of Stanmer Park and focused more on practical gardening and growing things than on having meetings. The allotment is still going [2011].

If you are a North Laine resident and would enjoy being part of the current Allotment Gardening Group, you can contact the coordinator through the general NLCA email address: contact@nlcaonline.org.uk

However, you will need to have your own transport to get there.
