Gunvant Majevadia

He ran the newsagents on the corner Trafalgar Street/Kensington Place

By Tessa Gunputh, North Laine resident

Many North Laine residents were very sorry to hear the sad news that Gunvant Majevadia died suddenly on 3rd May 2012. He was born on 19 December 1944.

They ran a newsagents

Gunvant and his wife Kumud worked very long hours for many years running ‘Easy News’ on the corner of Trafalgar Street and Kensington Place, whilst at the same time raising their family, and only retired recently to live nearby in Kensington Place.

A friendly and valuable service

Originally they traded out of the smaller shop next door (now in 2012 '4Print and Design').  I moved to Kensington Place from Kemp Street in 1988 and always remember them running the shops and providing a friendly and valuable service to the community.

He came from East Africa

Gunvant was in nursing before running his own business and I know he originally lived in East Africa.  I am sure he had a most interesting and varied life which I will write more about after I have the chance to speak to his family.

Our sympathies

I am sure that all of us would want to extend our sympathy to Kumud and their children Bhavesh, Meera and Anjli, and grand-daughter Savannah.
